Senior Software Engineer
ActBlue is a nonprofit organization that builds technology and infrastructure for Democratic campaigns and progressive causes. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to a team focused on enhancing their online fundraising platform, developing new features, and collaborating with operational teams to translate workflows into technical solutions.

Responsibilities
Implement and deliver large projects within your team over the span of a quarter with minimal guidance, breaking down ambiguous requirements into executable work while balancing effort, scope, and impact
Lead a few engineers on smaller initiatives with straightforward requirements
Collaborate closely with internal operational teams (CX, Legal, etc.) to understand complex workflows and translate them into technical requirements and solutions
Work with software engineers, product, and design to develop new user-facing features that make sophisticated workflows accessible
Design and implement flexible data models and systems with performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability in mind
Work across the stack using Ruby on Rails, React, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL in your daily work
Write technical proposals that articulate tradeoffs, risks, and different solution approaches for complex problems
Provide mentorship and knowledge sharing to newer team members through pair programming, code reviews, and technical discussions
Anticipate and proactively communicate blockers, scope changes, and risks within projects before they require escalation
Improve platform performance and maintainability through quality code, testing, monitoring, and documentation
Independently prioritize your work for maximum impact and sustain your own motivation through challenging work, persevering and unblocking yourself as needed

Qualification
Required
3-5+ years of professional experience working with teams and delivering projects
Experience implementing and delivering large projects within your team over the span of a quarter with minimal guidance
Experience leading a few engineers on smaller initiatives with straightforward requirements
Strong experience in Ruby on Rails, React, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL, with demonstrated ability to work effectively across the full stack. Developed deeper proficiency/expertise in a few areas of the codebase
Consistently able to break down work and set realistic expectations on timing and effort for large projects with some ambiguity
Track record of preempting common security, scalability, and reliability concerns in your own work and in code reviews
Experience building relationships cross-functionally and translating stakeholder needs into technical solutions
Comfort navigating ambiguous problem spaces and evolving requirements while maintaining focus on user needs and maximum impact
Ability to independently prioritize your work for maximum impact and sustain your own motivation through challenging work
Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, especially when building features where precision matters
Eagerness to explore, refactor, and optimize existing code while identifying opportunities to reuse patterns
Can self-evaluate productively and raise ideas and questions to your manager for constructive feedback conversations
Exhibits resiliency when things don't go as planned; comfortable with times of urgency, stress, or recovering from mistakes

Preferred
You have experience working in highly regulated industries (healthcare, fintech, legal tech, etc.)
You have experience building configurable systems or rules engines
You are proficient with Postgres and data modeling for complex business logic
You have experience building admin interfaces or internal tools
You have experience working closely with non-engineering stakeholders to understand and translate operational workflows into technical requirements
