Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities
Manage the development of new battery systems by ensuring appropriate coordination of multidisciplinary groups, including electrical/firmware engineering, mechanical engineering, drafting, production engineering, quality, and supply chain
Take ownership of all aspects of product development from initial customer and/or product requirements capture through release to production
Independently perform investigations to determine root cause which may result in recommendations for quality, and assembly improvements as well as rework to correct product conformance deficiencies
Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes
Design and develop battery system solutions such as battery module architecture, BMS enclosures, load boxes, etc
Utilize CAD (SolidWorks) and other product design software in the development of new products
Lead the mechanical integration of cells, electromechanical components, hardware, and wire harness development
Evaluate and spec appropriate components to fulfill application needs in the most cost-effective manner
Building of prototypes and testing (in-house and field) of those prototypes
Statistical analysis of test data to arrive at appropriate final design adjustments
Participation in project schedule creation
Participation in brainstorms of best ideas and solutions
Providing clear, concise, accurate and timely verbal and written updates to project and department management
Participation in and running design reviews
Supporting our in-house assembly department from pre-pilot through production stabilization
Evaluate design/assembly approaches; select and implement the most cost-effective, time sensitive solution
Receives requests from Customer Service, Purchasing, Inspection and Production Teams to investigate problem issues and provides expert advice for improvements
Application of LEAN Six Sigma and 5S methodologies for continuous improvement of manufacturing as well as operation business processes
Domestic travel to commission and support new product sales / demos (up to 20%)
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in mechanical or equivalent
Familiarity with using SolidWorks in a business environment
Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes and/or automation
Ability to multi-task while shifting priorities on day-to-day basis
Demonstrated ability to own an assignment and see it through to completion
Comfortable working on cross-functional teams of mechanical, electrical and software engineers and able to collaborate effectively and efficiently
Proficient in Excel and basic mechanical/electrical calculations
Must have an attitude of innovation and seek leadership responsibilities
Ability to read and understand engineering documentation, CAD files and schematics
Must be able to lift 50 pounds periodically throughout the workday
Must be able to travel domestically
Preferred
5+ years of relevant engineering experience preferred
Working experience in Design or Manufacturing Engineering: 3+ years preferred
