Senior Vice President of Affiliates and Content Acquisition

Confidential is seeking a Senior Vice President of Affiliates and Content Acquisition who will be responsible for architecting and executing the company's content distribution strategy. This role involves driving growth through securing and managing carriage agreements across all distribution platforms while cultivating relationships with distribution partners.

Responsibilities

Lead and close complex carriage negotiations with major cable and satellite providers (MVPDs), over-the-air (OTA) broadcast stations, and emerging FAST/MVPD platforms. Negotiate high-stakes negotiations for affiliate agreements, renewals, and amendments, ensuring favorable terms related to carriage fees, channel placement and tiering, signal quality and uptime, and promotional support and marketing commitments
Proactively identify, source, and develop new distribution partnerships to grow household penetration. Identify and pursue new distribution opportunities to expand the network’s presence domestically and internationally, where applicable
Cultivate and maintain strong, long-term relationships with senior executives and key decision-makers at all distribution partners. Manage relationships with existing affiliates, providing ongoing support and communication to maximize performance
Develop and execute the long-term affiliate distribution strategy to maximize household reach, channel positioning, and revenue growth
Drive revenue growth through distribution expansion, improved placement, and enhanced affiliate partnerships. Establish and monitor KPIs related to household penetration and reach, affiliate performance by market, signal uptime and quality, and distribution-related revenue contribution
Develop and manage the financial models that underpin distribution deals, ensuring they align with company goals. Partner with Finance and Sales leadership to model the financial impact of distribution decisions and negotiate accordingly
Serve as the internal expert on the media landscape, providing insights and strategic recommendations on market trends, competitive activities, and new technologies. Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends and opportunities in the affiliate marketing landscape
Manage and mentor a high-performing team, overseeing contract administration, compliance, and ongoing partner support
Ensure compliance with all FCC, contractual, and distribution-related regulations. Proactively manage distribution risk, including affiliate disputes, contract expirations, and signal interruptions or platform changes. Develop contingency plans to protect continuity of distribution and revenue
Oversee the buying of airtime and manage the associated budgets

Required

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field
15–25 years in network distribution, affiliate relations, or media carriage
Proven executive-level experience negotiating complex, multi-year carriage agreements
A proven 'deal closer' with a track record of successfully negotiating high-stakes agreements
Executive-level negotiation and relationship management skills
A robust and current network of senior-level contacts across MVPDs, broadcast groups, and streaming services
Sophisticated understanding of the business models and economic drivers of both traditional and digital media distribution
Ability to model, analyze, and present the financial impact of distribution deals
Deep financial acumen and contract analysis expertise
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strategic thinker with the ability to make data-driven decisions
Strong business judgment
