Information Technology Architect 2 (Network)

The NYS Office of Information Technology Services is seeking a Network Architect to join their Department of Labor Dedicated Enterprise Architecture team. The role involves designing, planning, and optimizing the network infrastructure while ensuring security and performance, and requires collaboration with various teams to meet business requirements.

Responsibilities

Conduct in-depth analysis of current network infrastructure, identifying performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and areas for improvement
Gather and interpret business and application requirements to design highly available, scalable, and secure network architectures
Develop and review detailed network diagrams, documentation, and architecture blueprints
Evaluate and recommend new networking technologies, hardware, and software solutions to enhance network performance, security, and efficiency
Design and implement network segmentation strategies to enhance security and optimize traffic flow
Plan and execute network migrations, upgrades, and expansions with minimal disruption to operations
Establish and maintain comprehensive network monitoring systems to proactively identify and resolve issues
Continuously monitor network performance metrics, including latency, throughput, packet loss, and utilization, for on-premise networks
Analyze network data to identify trends, predict potential problems, and recommend preventative measures
Develop and implement network performance baselines and KPIs
Optimize network configurations to improve performance, reduce latency, and enhance overall efficiency
Perform traffic shaping, QoS (Quality of Service) configurations, and routing optimizations
Troubleshoot complex network issues, including connectivity problems, performance degradation, and security incidents
Collaborate with application development teams to optimize network connectivity for specific applications and services
Oversee the maintenance of all network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers
Develop and implement network backup and disaster recovery strategies
Ensure network security best practices are consistently applied and maintained
Provide expert-level support for network-related incidents and problems, participating in on-call rotation as needed
Manage vendor relationships for network-related products and services
Manage and coordinate WAN and Campus circuit provisioning for Interagency and Internet services by working with CTO, Facilities, and Circuit provider
Provide Technical Network Support during Engineering Intake and Build Process
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including server administrators, security engineers, application developers, and project managers
Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including logical and physical diagrams, configurations, policies, and procedures

Required

Seven years of information technology experience, five years of which must be in the appropriate specialty
Associate's degree with 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field substitutes for one year of general information technology experience
Candidates in a bachelor's degree program with at least 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field can substitute such credits for one year of general information technology experience
Bachelor's degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field substitutes for three years of general information technology experience
Any bachelor's degree substitutes for two years of general information technology experience
Master's degree or higher in computer science or related field substitutes for one year of general information technology experience
Specialty includes experience as an IT architect in one or more of the following: artificial intelligence, cloud, data, enterprise, business, solution, and networking

Preferred

Knowledge of NYS CTO system architectural standards
Knowledge of NYS ISO security policy and standards
Knowledge of ITIL Service Management standards and modules (Change, Incidents, Service Requests, Problem, Reports, Knowledge, etc.)
Experience with SD-WAN technologies
Proven expertise in designing and implementing complex network solutions for on-premises environments
Strong experience with network security principles and encryption technologies (firewalls, VPNs, IPSec, IDS/IPS, SSH, TLS, NAC, 802.1x)
Experience securely designing and supporting the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) devices
Extensive Hands-on experience with major networking vendors (e.g., Cisco, Extreme, Netscreen/Juniper, Nortel, Ubiquiti, Meraki, Aruba, and Palo Alto network devices)
Experience supporting Unified Networking components (Voice, Video, Wireless) design and operations
Applications: Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Visio, Packet analysis: (Wireshark, Sniffer Pro/Distributed/Infinistream)
