Financial Controller

Connecticut Innovations is Connecticut’s strategic venture capital arm, and they are seeking a part-time Controller for SedMed, a medical equipment company. Responsibilities

Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
Own cash flow management and runway planning
Support fundraising, investor reporting, and board communications
Develop dashboards, variance analyses, and management reports
Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights
Prepare board and investor reporting packages
Own all accounting operations: general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, expense management
Lead monthly and quarterly close, delivering accurate GAAP-compliant financial statements
Oversee transaction review and proper accounting treatment
Maintain audit readiness and support tax and regulatory filings
Build and maintain internal controls, financial policies, and scalable processes
Manage accounting systems and integrations (e.g., QuickBooks, Carta, expense and procurement tools)
Continuously improve workflows to support growth
Support grant management processes
Oversee core HR-related financial operations, including payroll processing, employee insurance and benefits administration, reimbursements, and coordination with external payroll and benefits providers
Partner with operations and leadership on financial implications of growth initiatives

Required

7–12+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including leadership in a venture-backed or high-growth environment
Proven experience building finance and accounting systems from early or growth-stage
Strong foundation in GAAP, financial controls, and audit standards
CPA required
Expertise in QuickBooks Online and financial integrations (e.g., Carta, FP&A tools)
Advanced Excel/Google Sheets modeling and analysis
Strategic finance leader with strong business acumen
Experience supporting fundraising and investor relations
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and fast-changing environments
Growth-oriented and eager to build something from the ground up
Mission-driven, excited about improving quality of life through healthcare innovation
