Responsibilities
Perform daily monitoring, maintenance, and administration to ensure the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of enterprise SAN and storage environments
Design, implement, and support storage solutions including SAN fabrics, NAS (such as NetApp), storage arrays, replication technologies, and backup/restore systems
Assess short and long term capacity, performance, and scalability requirements for storage infrastructure
Evaluate emerging storage technologies and contribute to establishing departmental standards, best practices, and lifecycle strategies
Develop and maintain detailed storage documentation, including topology diagrams, configuration records, and operational procedures
Conduct business requirement analyses and determines the impact on storage, backup, and disaster recovery infrastructure
Apply project management methodologies (PMP) to lead and coordinate storage related projects and enterprise initiatives
Communicate and coordinate objectives, timelines, and technical activities with stakeholders across the organization, ensuring alignment with business and IT strategies
Ensure enterprise compliance requirements are met and maintained
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent required
System Administrator: Minimum of five years' experience in I.T. and/or application development required
Sr System Administrator: Minimum of eight years' experience in I.T. and/or application development required
Ability to follow Project Management practices for implementing projects and changes
Skilled in maintaining technical documentation and designing procedures for new technology
Capable of preparing system charts, workflow diagrams, and cost-benefit analysis summaries
Strong leadership and meeting participation skills
Ability to stay updated on technology developments
Proven experience in mentoring and providing training
Skilled in managing multiple tasks or projects simultaneously
Proficient in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office)
Understanding of essential business operations
In-depth knowledge of infrastructure architecture (database, messaging, security, OS, networks, storage, business continuity/disaster recovery)
Ability to evaluate infrastructure processes and conduct gap analysis
Familiar with industry architecture standards
Proficient in Change Management/Release processes
Preferred
Bachelor's degree or completion of a Computer Science Program from a Technical Trade School preferred. Technical training with certification in assigned technology is required as applicable
Demonstrated experience with managing assigned technology by performing regular and critical maintenance tasks within defined service levels preferred
ITIL Foundation preferred
Relevant technical certifications are preferred or must be obtained based on assigned technologies, such as: Storage vendor certifications (e.g., Dell EMC, NetApp, IBM), SAN fabric certifications (e.g., Brocade/Broadcom, Cisco MDS), Backup/DR platform certifications (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, Cohesity)
Preferred Experience with Vendors / Technologies: Enterprise storage platforms such as Dell EMC (ECS), NetApp ONTAP, Cohesity DataProtect, IBM SAN, or equivalent
SAN fabric technologies including Brocade/Broadcom and Cisco MDS
Backup and disaster recovery platforms such as Tivoli Storage Manager, Cohesity DataProtect, Veeam, or similar
Virtualization technologies including VMware vSphere/ESXi, VCF, storage integrations (VVols, VMFS, NFS), and vCenter management
Monitoring and analytics tools such as SolarWinds, Dynatrace, ExtraHop, or vendor specific storage monitoring suites such as IBM Storage Insights
Cloud storage and hybrid cloud technologies across Azure, or AWS, including block, file, and object storage services
Data center infrastructure technologies such as APC (UPS, PDUs), environmental monitoring, and cable/testing tools
Preferred Experience with Storage Relevant Protocols: Storage networking protocols: Fibre Channel (FC), FCoE, iSCSI, NVMe oF, NPIV
File and block protocols: NFS, SMB/CIFS, S3 compatible object storage
Fabric and link technologies: Zoning (Hard and Soft), VSANs, Policy Based replication, and multipathing (MPIO)
Core infrastructure protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NTP, and related services that support storage operations
Security and authentication protocols relevant to storage: LDAP, Active Directory integration, and role-based access controls
