Senior Executive Recruiter – Private Equity (Part-Time)
DealTeam partners with private equity firms by proactively building operator benches that so they can buy businesses based on that operators capabilities. The Senior Executive Recruiter role bridges executive recruiting and private equity by building trusted networks of C-suite operators who serve as operating partners in independent sponsor deals, directly enabling transactions and company transformations.
Responsibilities
Utilize our sourcing technology and qualify CEO/COO/President-level executives who are interested in operating partner roles with private equity firms and independent sponsors
Educate candidates on the PE/independent sponsor model, articulating the path from operating partner to C-suite, equity participation, and value creation opportunities
Build and maintain industry-specific networks across target sectors (manufacturing, business services, healthcare, distribution) to create a pipeline of available executives
Conduct comprehensive assessments evaluating operational expertise, deal experience, P&L management capabilities, and cultural fit with sponsor investment theses
Track market intelligence: executives leaving companies, post-exit operators, retiring CEOs, and industry veterans seeking portfolio roles
Manage 3-5 concurrent searches through 1-2 month placement cycles, from initial sourcing through acceptance and sponsor satisfaction
Maintain long-term relationships with both sponsors and placed executives, generating repeat business and referrals
Navigate complex opportunity structures including equity, carry, success fees, and board seats in consultative conversations with skeptical executives
Qualification
Required
5-7 years of retained executive search experience with demonstrated C-suite placements (CEO, COO, President, General Manager level)
Understanding of private equity: familiarity with independent sponsors, PE-backed companies, and portfolio company dynamics
Established network of senior executives across at least 2-3 industry verticals who trust your counsel on career opportunities
Track record recruiting for or working with investors, board members, or sponsors
Strong business acumen: can discuss P&Ls, operational metrics, value creation strategies, and typical operating partner compensation structures
Excellent consultative selling skills with ability to position non-traditional, equity-based opportunities to experienced executives
Self-directed work style with ability to manage long sales cycles and ambiguous, entrepreneurial environments
Comfortable articulating complex opportunity structures and addressing executive concerns about non-traditional roles
Preferred
Prior experience in private equity, investment banking, corporate development, or M&A advisory
Experience recruiting operating partners, interim executives, board advisors, or other non-traditional executive roles
Network of executives who've sold companies, are post-exit, or seeking portfolio-based work
Relationships with independent sponsors, search funds, family offices, or lower middle market PE firms
Understanding of lower middle market M&A ($10M-$100M transaction sizes) and deal structures
Active participation in industry associations (ACG, M&A Source, Axial, CEO peer groups)
Experience recruiting across multiple sectors: manufacturing, distribution, business services, healthcare
