Senior Actuarial Analyst

Responsibilities

Conducting research and analysis on potential new lines of business and establish rates/pricing that supports Markel’s initiative of continued profitable premium growth along with cost-based pricing; researching new business opportunities when requested and identifying potential acquisitions
Communicating results with actuaries, Finance, Claims, Underwriting, and Executive Leadership in a clear and concise manner and responding efficiently and accurately to requests to vary the actuarial analysis in terms of structure and/or assumptions in order to more accurately represent the risk being analyzed
Presenting results of actuarial analyses to meeting attendees, and ensuring that actuarial and non-actuarial attendees have a clear understanding of final results
Forecasting reserve estimates on a quarterly basis
Periodic pricing studies
Utilizing predictive analytics to identify most and least profitable insureds within a portfolio
Rate change monitoring
Developing action monitors to track progress toward stated goals to improve profitability
Ad hoc requests from product line leaders and executive leadership
Communicating potential actuarial issues promptly
Other actuarial work as needed

Required

Bachelor's Degree preferably in mathematics, statistics, or other analytical fields
2+ Actuarial exams passed, with a demonstrated commitment to pursuing Associate or Fellowship designation in the Casualty Actuarial Society
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Excellent analytical ability
Strong technical skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
US Work Authorization required. Markel does not provide visa sponsorship for this position, now or in the future

Minimum of 2 years of actuarial or data analytics experience preferred
