Temporary Property Management Assistant
The Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies is an independent ecological research and educational organization located in New York’s Hudson Valley Region. The Temporary Property Management Assistant will assist with the maintenance of the Cary Institute trails and public environmental education efforts.

Responsibilities
Basic maintenance of hiking trails, foot bridges, unpaved roads and forested landscapes
Safely operate hand tools and power equipment including pruning shears, shovels, wheelbarrows, blowers, string and hedge trimmers, chain saw and others as needed
Install, maintain and monitor native plant materials
Monitor and manage invasive species using manual, mechanical, and chemical practices
Maintain interpretive signs, kiosks and outdoor educational features
Assist with on-site public education programs
Interact with and provide guidance to volunteers and visitors on the grounds
Maintain accurate record-keeping of activities and observations
Perform other assigned duties
Qualification
Required
High school diploma, or its equivalent
Training in biology, conservation, horticultural sciences or related field
Strong interpersonal & communication skills
High level of organization and attention to detail
Competence with computers (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, cloud computing, etc.)
Able to work outside in all types of weather and temperatures, around insects, ticks and poison ivy
Stand/walk for the majority of the work day
Lift/move items weighing up to 50 lbs
Preferred
Working knowledge and experience with trail and landscape management
