Director, Signals & Communication

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a Director of Signals & Communication to manage and perform quality control of installation, maintenance, and inspection of railway signals and communication systems. The role involves writing specifications, dealing with regulatory authorities, and managing budgets and projects related to railway safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities

Write and enforce specifications and work procedures
Deal with regulatory authorities
Perform detailed safety assessments of road crossings of railway
Establish maintenance-and-rehabilitation priority projects
Carry out profitability analysis, take charge of third-party financing, and arrange plans and specifications for all related projects
Plan, prepare, implement, and be accountable for operating and capital budgets
Prepare cost estimate for signal and communication projects
Investigate, coordinate, and implement all procurement related to assigned installation, maintenance, and inspection projects
Review and analyze operating practices; provide recommendations and follow-up
Prepare various reports and ratios for senior management
Promote rail safety in all applicable forums
Manage other projects and perform other duties as assigned

Required

Technical and regulatory railroad knowledge
Good computer skills in CAD, Microsoft, and specialized railroad-signal software (e.g., data event recorder, railway crossing controller, and wayside detector controller)
Knowledge of HXP, SSCC3+, SEAR2, GCP3000, SERVO, STC, AEI reader, and radio communication systems
Knowledge of enterprise data systems, including Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains), RMI, and e-procurement
Good oral and written communication skills in English
Knowledge of safety procedures

Bachelor's degree in electro-mechanics or related field, and at least seven to ten years of railroad operating supervisory experience
CROR and GCOR qualification

Experience in Class 1 railroad signal installation and signal design preferred
