DOCSIS Engineer II

Responsibilities
Design, engineer, and evolve DOCSIS access network architectures supporting both legacy CMTS and Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) deployments
Develop detailed network designs, configuration standards, and implementation guidance for DOCSIS infrastructure expansions, upgrades, and technology refreshes
Lead engineering efforts for capacity augmentation, spectrum utilization, and plant readiness to support growing bandwidth demand and multi-gig services
Produce and maintain high-quality engineering documentation, including design packages, topology diagrams, and configuration templates
Evaluate and recommend DOCSIS platform enhancements, software upgrades, feature adoption, and hardware lifecycle strategies aligned with roadmap objectives
Translate business, capacity, and product requirements into scalable DOCSIS network designs
Engineer solutions supporting DOCSIS 3.1+, upstream/downstream optimization, OFDMA/OFDMA planning, and readiness for DOCSIS 4.0 evolution
Perform engineering analysis to validate node segmentation, service group sizing, channel planning, and DAA architecture selections
Provide engineering oversight for complex or high-impact DOCSIS initiatives, acting as a technical authority during planning and execution phases
Author and maintain engineering standards, best practices, and reference architectures for CMTS and DAA environments
Create reusable design artifacts (diagrams, templates, checklists) to improve consistency and reduce variability across deployments
Ensure all designs and recommendations are clearly documented to support downstream execution teams
Contribute to knowledge repositories and technical runbooks used by engineering and implementation partners
Support long-term DOCSIS and access network roadmaps, including migration strategies from legacy architectures to DAA
Participate in vendor evaluations, feature testing, and proof-of-concept activities to assess new DOCSIS capabilities
Identify opportunities to improve scalability, reliability, and performance through thoughtful design improvements
Provide technical input to leadership on technology choices, risks, and tradeoffs related to DOCSIS evolution
