Internal Controls Associate
Itaú USA is seeking an Internal Controls Associate to provide analytical support to the Internal Controls department. The role involves evaluating complex processes, risks, and controls to ensure compliance with legislation and internal policies, while also facilitating risk assessments and addressing control deficiencies.
Responsibilities
Work with various business partners to facilitate the completion of risk assessments and targeted operational risk assessment projects
Assisting the Principal Risk Owners and Principal Risk Coordinators with the identification of key risks and mitigating controls in their business units, as well as action plans to address any gaps in the mitigating measures identified
Conduct assessments focused on Anti-Money Laundering process to ensure it complies with corporate policies and regulatory requirements, as well as design and execution of tests to identify possible control weaknesses, preparing adequate documentations (working papers) regarding the assessment performed
Work with business areas to provide action plans to address any gaps in the mitigating measures identified
Investigate and assess the root cause of a loss/gain event, and assist business partners in addressing control deficiencies that surfaced as a result of such event
Review new product proposals to ensure same are supported by internal policies, suitability process, documentation, and in compliance with laws and regulations. Provide feedback and comments in preparation for the products committee
Test self-assessments / controls to identify possible control weaknesses in departments and functions and other operational areas and recommend changes to minimize those weaknesses
Assist third parties with the overall assessment process and ongoing monitoring of outstanding items requiring follow-up and resolution
Conduct regulatory research, disseminate regulatory information, and provide opinions and advice on regulatory matters
Examine policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with laws and regulations and implement any needed changes
Monitor the completion of all assigned activities of business partners to ensure agreed upon changes have been completed to address identified control weakness
Prepare reports of assessments performed and material for committees
Support areas to develop key risk indicators when applicable
Perform duties & responsibilities specific to department functions & activities
Compliance with BSA/AML laws, rules, regulations and the bank’s BSA/AML policies and procedures is a part of the performance evaluation of all employees
Compliance with Anti-Money Laundering and Bank Secrecy Act related principles, laws, rules and regulations, as well as Itau’s related policies and procedures
Coordinate and participate in squad and community reviews , ensuring alignment with governance frameworks
Qualification
Required
BA degree business or related field preferred, equivalent work experience considered
Minimum 3 years' experience of bank and/or broker dealer experience
Proven ability to develop, document and maintain operational policies and procedures, including the designing and documenting detailed process flows, and the development of operational performance and quality metric standards and reports
Proven experience working with Excel and Access, developing and maintaining various analyses and reporting tools
Working knowledge of U.S. banking and broker dealer regulations
Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley and COSO
Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional squads and communities, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, specifically, Excel, Access, Power Point and Word
Fluency in English
Preferred
Knowledge in tools used for data science and other statistical analyses such as SAS, Tableau, ACL, Phyton or Alteryx
AML Certification: FIBA or ACAMS
Experience working in agile environments, including familiarity with Scrum or Kanban methodologies
Fluency in Portugues and/or Spanish desirable
