Responsibilities
Coordinating and conducting various inspection, sampling, and testing procedures to verify that construction project features and materials conform with standard specifications, Department requirements, and contract agreements
Coordinating and conducting staking and surveying procedures
Performing a variety of other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
A combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, including coursework in algebra, geometry, or trigonometry
Field Project Technician I – no engineering technician-related experience required
Field Project Technician II – one year of engineering technician-related experience required
Field Project Technician III – two years of experience in highway construction or related field required (e.g., laboratory testing, transportation design, engineering, etc.)
Junior Engineering Coordinator - three years of experience in highway construction or related field required (e.g., laboratory testing, transportation design, engineering, etc.)
Senior Engineering Coordinator - four years of experience in highway construction or related field required (e.g., laboratory testing, transportation design, engineering, etc.)
Knowledge of project inspection and testing procedures, including site features and materials
Knowledge of general construction engineering principles
Knowledge of sampling and laboratory testing procedures
Knowledge of State, AASHTO, FHWA, and ASTM standards and specifications
Knowledge of maintenance and calibration of specialized tools and equipment
Knowledge of surveying and highway construction methods and operations
Knowledge of project implementation and documentation techniques
Knowledge of project design and construction criteria and standards
Knowledge of properties and characteristics of materials components and the impacts of site specific circumstances (e.g., soils, temperature, weather conditions, gradations, segregation, stability, flows, additives, absorption rates, etc.)
Knowledge of highway construction terminology
Knowledge of business English
Knowledge of basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
Ability to meet significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 80 pounds (and occasionally greater weights)
Ability to carry survey equipment over rough terrain
Ability to climb and bend to retrieve samples
Ability to operate gas, diesel, and electrically powered equipment
Driver's record will be verified
