Engineering Technician

Responsibilities
Assists in maintaining, upgrading and documenting the Allen-Bradley PLC code and HMI operator interfaces, GE SCADA and multiple plant historical data collection systems for the MFP main juice plant, MFC aseptic processing plant, R&D facility, and MFS Sunnyside’s juice operations. Help troubleshoot, maintain, and repair / replace all related PLC and HMI components and computer equipment supporting the PLC network and plant operations at these locations
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of test apparatus and peripheral equipment. Analyze and convert test data, using mathematical formulas, report results and propose modifications. Provide operations / maintenance support with troubleshooting and repair of all plant systems involving electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical devices while identifying the logical root cause of a particular equipment or code issue
Assist in developing, configuring and maintaining multiple GE IHistorian process data collection systems. Retrieve, analyze and develop customized historical data reports as requested to support plant operations and quality assertions. Provide training to users of the Historian software, including preparing technical “white” papers as operational aides
Confers with the Plant Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, Engineering Systems Administrator, contractors, and other maintenance workers to source and assist with new equipment installation, as well as the maintenance and repair of existing instrumentation and plant equipment. Helps with the design and drawing of Process and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID’s) for the plant electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
Install, configure, and maintain various technical support sub-systems, including plant security cameras and an industrial-grade wireless network supporting the CMS maintenance
Assists the Engineering Systems Administrator and IT Technicians as necessary, providing various backup IT support for core business activities at multiple locations (MFP main plant, MFC, R&D and MFS Sunnyside). Duties include supporting network reliability, network gear and wiring, server maintenance and repair, communications support and general ‘day-to-day’ PC and employee related issues and concerns
Routinely develop test plans and procedures, technical “white” paper aides and assist with performing process functionality testing of code changes to ensure desired results are achieved
Perform all work safely, with the utmost concern for employees, plant equipment and product quality, while in compliance with all food safety regulations and guidelines
Other duties as assigned
Regular attendance during established business hours is an essential requirement of the position
Qualification
Required
A.S. degree or technical certification in instrumentation, programming or engineering
PC-based computing experience (word processing-Word, spreadsheet-Excel, email-Outlook)
Experienced in PLC and HMI Programming
Basic understanding of UL 508A, UL698A and NFPA 79 standards and how to find information in the standards
Experience with radio telemetry and SCADA systems
Knowledge of Industrial Safety including Electrical and Fluid Power safety, Lockout and Tagout (LOTO) procedures, etc
Use of test equipment to troubleshoot and maintain industrial controls
Solid knowledge of industrial control systems including PLC's, Motors, VFD's, sensors, instrumentation, calibration, etc
PC networking (Ethernet IP) and/or additional programming skills
An equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Ability to read and comprehend English and comprehend company policy and state and federal regulations as well as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to relate well with all levels of MFP staff, growers, customers and other business people
Ability to patiently and cooperatively communicate with internal customers to identify problems for accurate troubleshooting
Professional writing skills to compose memos, letters and other business correspondence observing all rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation
Ability to define, calibrate and repair process controls such as temperature, level, flow and pressure
Ability to work with mathematical concepts for electronics, electricity, solid state and digital devices including the use of applied physics and calculus
Ability to make decisions, exhibit sound and accurate judgment and make timely decisions
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Ability to logically think through control operation
Mobility among office and plant facilities
Ability to work in a production plant environment which may include heat, cold, noise
Ability to sit, stand, talk, hear, taste, smell, reach, bend, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
Ability to use a keyboard and monitor
Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
