Chamberlain Advisors is a rapidly growing, privately owned construction firm seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Controller. This critical finance leadership role involves ownership of the general ledger, financial reporting, and complex project accounting processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting leadership decision-making.

Responsibilities

Own the general ledger and ensure accounts are stated accurately and consistently
Lead and continuously improve the month-end close process, with a goal of reducing close timelines to 10 days or fewer
Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports
Maintain and oversee all balance sheet reconciliations (currently a greenfield opportunity)
Own and maintain the WIP schedule across 200+ project lines at varying stages
Apply and manage complex revenue recognition methodologies, including: Actuals-based recognition (design phase), Average gross margin recognition for signed but not-started projects, True percentage-of-completion accounting once projects commence
Ensure accuracy, consistency, and audit defensibility of all WIP and revenue calculations
Perform monthly budget-to-actual and variance analysis, with clear explanations of the “why” behind results
Partner with department leaders in regular financial reviews to monitor performance against budget
Support forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial planning initiatives
Serve as the primary owner of audit preparation and coordination, including schedules, documentation, and responses
Ensure strong internal controls and audit-ready financial processes
Manage relationships with external auditors, tax providers, and other third-party advisors
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability
Evaluate and optimize accounting systems and integrations, including Sage Intacct and Procore
Support longer-term initiatives around systems connectivity, reporting automation, and close acceleration
Work closely with the CFO, Accounting Manager, and cross-functional leaders as a trusted finance partner
Communicate complex accounting concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders
Contribute positively to company’s collaborative, entrepreneurial culture

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
Two to five years of relevant accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Demonstrated experience with construction job costing and/or construction auditing is required
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills; working knowledge of Word and Outlook required
Ability to read and comprehend general business publications, financial reports, and technical procedures
Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, and procedure documentation
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, staff, and external stakeholders
Ability to solve practical problems involving multiple variables in situations with limited standardization
Strong capability to interpret and apply instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based formats
Ability to apply mathematical and statistical concepts, including probability, percentages, ratios, proportions, and basic statistical inference, to real-world business situations

Preferred

CPA strongly preferred; candidates without a CPA must demonstrate CPA-level technical GAAP accounting competency through previous accounting experience or complex industry work
Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) designation a plus
Experience with Sage Intacct, HH2 time reporting, and Procore is a plus
