Executive Director
Texas Association for the Education of Young Children (TXAEYC) is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization in its mission to support early childhood education in Texas. The Executive Director will be responsible for strategic leadership, external relations, financial oversight, and operational management.
Non-profit Organization Management
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Board of Directors to define and execute the organization’s strategic plan and long-term goals
Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and increased impact within the early childhood education sector
Ensure all programs and initiatives align with TXAEYC’s mission and values
Serve as the primary spokesperson for TXAEYC, representing the organization at conferences, public events, and in the media
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including funders, state agencies, policymakers, and community partners
Lead advocacy efforts to advance policies that support early childhood professionals and children in Texas
Oversee the organization’s financial health, including budget development, monitoring, and reporting
Work closely with the Bookkeeper to ensure compliance with financial regulations and successful completion of annual audits
Drive fundraising strategies in conjunction with the TXAEYC governing board, grant writing, and revenue diversification to ensure long-term sustainability
Provide direct supervision and mentorship to the Operations & Communications Manager, Program & Administrative Coordinator, and Bookkeeper
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance organizational culture
Ensure effective internal systems, policies, and procedures are in place to support the team’s work
Oversee the management of contracts and external consultants
Qualification
Required
Minimum of 5-7 years in nonprofit management or a related leadership role
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field
Strong strategic planning and execution capabilities
Proven track record in financial management and budgeting
Excellent public speaking, written communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to lead and motivate a small, dynamic team
Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture and translate vision into actionable plans
Relationship Building: Skilled at connecting with diverse groups to build consensus and support
Integrity & Accountability: Demonstrates high ethical standards and takes ownership of organizational outcomes
Adaptability: Capable of navigating change and leading through transitions with resilience
Preferred
Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field
Knowledge of the early childhood education landscape in Texas is highly desirable
