Workers' Compensation Program Consultant

Responsibilities

Independently administering the agency’s workers’ compensation program, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant handling of claims from initial injury through case closure
Serving as the primary point of contact for employees, supervisors, medical providers, and third-party administrators regarding workplace injuries
Initiating, processing, and managing all steps of workers’ compensation claims in accordance with state and federal laws, OSHR policies, and agency procedures
Guiding employees through benefits enrollment, qualifying life events, and changes related to workers’ compensation or medical restrictions
Provide consultation on complex HR situations involving injury claims, medical restrictions, or employee leave
Maintaining effective working relationships and serving as the primary liaison between employees, managers, and external vendors/partners
Independently managing and coordinating all aspects of workers’ compensation cases and benefits programs, including documentation, follow-up, reporting, training, and ensuring compliance with laws, policies, and deadlines
Developing and delivering training and educational resources to supervisors and employees to ensure understanding of workers’ compensation, benefits, and related HR procedures
Promoting a culture of employee well-being, safety awareness, and proactive engagement with benefits

Required

Bachelor's degree, typically in Human Resources or related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 3 years of progressive experience in Human Resources; or equivalent combination or education and experience

Preferred

Familiarity with/knowledge of North Carolina workers' compensation laws
Familiarity with/knowledge of OSHA reporting
Experience managing workers' compensation and/or employee injury claims with a third-party administrator
