Transportation Engineer III, IV or V: Bridge Office (Austin District)
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer III, IV, or V to join their Austin District Bridge Section. This role involves advanced transportation engineering work focusing on bridge design, inspection, and project management to enhance Texas' transportation infrastructure.

Responsibilities
Designs highly complex bridge projects and performs specialized design
Inspects structures for impact damage and construction problems and may design emergency shoring to prevent collapse of damaged structures
Performs inspections, structural evaluations and analyses of bridges and related structures that have appraisal and condition ratings or are recommended for closure
Rates and monitors load carrying capacities of bridges
Recommends bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges
Reviews shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Must be able to drive for the Agency
Coordinates and monitors consultant contracts related projects
Maintains a critical bridge list and coordinates with the Bridge Division, area engineers and other district staff on critical findings involving state maintained bridges to have them posted, repaired or closed to the traveling public
Recommends prioritization of bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges
Ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards
Assists district with bridge inspection-related matters
Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance
Performs highly complex structural analysis of bridge designs
Performs inspections, structural evaluations and analyses of bridges and related structures that have appraisal and condition ratings or are recommended for closure
Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions
Performs highly advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
Transportation Engineer III: 6 YEARS in Transportation engineering or related engineering experience
Transportation Engineer IV: 7 YEARS in Transportation engineering or related engineering experience
Transportation Engineer V: 8 YEARS in Transportation engineering or related engineering experience
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Licensed Prof Engineer
If performing underwater bridge inspections: Must have Open Water Diver certification
For Bridge Inspection: Must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within (1) year of date of hire
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
