Code Enforcement Officer I (Code Compliance) (Civil Service)
City of Dallas is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer I to investigate, inspect, and enforce municipal, land development, and property maintenance codes. The role involves conducting inspections, addressing code violations, and educating the public on regulations and standards.

Responsibilities
Conducts and performs inspections on city properties, projects, buildings, and developments to ensure compliance with all municipal, state, and federal regulations
Identifies, determines, and compiles non-compliant concerns and addresses issues with appropriate parties; takes accurate data and information concerning code violations and enforces code compliance
Investigates non compliant problems and makes recommendations for corrective action; communicates and collaborates with developers and other individuals to address code violations and make changes; performs follow up work and assistance as needed
Creates accurate and professional notices of violation; takes photographs and gathers evidence while performing inspections; issues citations and responds to citizen complaints
Educates and provides information to citizens, developers, and the general public; interprets laws and regulations while educating public on laws regulations and code standards
Drafts, maintains, and edits documents regarding inspections, code enforcement activities, and code violations
Remains up to date on all current code standards and changes in regulations; maintains certifications and attends professional development as needed
Drives vehicles throughout the city to perform inspections and address compliance and code violations
Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED
Two (2) years of heavy citizen/customer service contact resolving complaints and/or conflicts, service and/or billing disputes
A current Code Enforcement Officer Trainee certification (or higher) issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) will meet the education and experience requirements
Valid driver's license with good driving record
Must obtain certification as a Code Enforcement Officer Trainee issued by TDLR within probationary period
Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
Preferred
Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
Effective oral and written communication skills
Exceptional customer service skills
PC and report writing skills
Ability to testify in court and deal effectively with the public
Ability to work under time sensitive situations
Ability to work with community stakeholders and develop community partnerships
Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism
