IT Field Service Technician

The Honolulu Museum of Art is a community-focused institution dedicated to art and education. The IT Field Service Technician provides advanced support for the museum’s technology infrastructure, ensuring operational continuity and assisting with technology installations and upgrades.

Education

Responsibilities

Provides weekend/off-hours coverage by triaging and resolving urgent IT issues, including critical hardware, networking, exhibition, and environmental system incidents. Documents actions and hands off follow‑up tasks to other IT staff
Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots physical IT systems across museum locations, including structured cabling, AV devices, sensors, and other network‑connected hardware
Maintains organized and properly managed cabling inside racks and network enclosures, including labeling, routing improvements, and removal of obsolete cabling
Supports planning and preparation for infrastructure projects, including network enclosures, cable‑pathway planning, and equipment staging
Configures and maintains exhibition and event technology in collaboration with IT, Installations, and Curatorial teams
Diagnoses and repairs hardware devices such as AV units, desktops, laptops, workstations, and peripherals
Maintains accurate documentation of cabling, device locations, and network information; coordinates with IT team on infrastructure needs
Demonstrates a commitment to fostering cultivating, and preserving a culture of inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility through respectful communication and cooperation with others, continuous training, and the modeling of inclusive behaviors
In partnership with HR, supports the leadership team in ensuring equitable experiences, strengthening inclusion acumen and promoting a culture of belonging that embraces the contributions of all staff

Required

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or at least five years of comprehensive related experience
Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking and basic network infrastructure components
Familiarity with network infrastructure, fiber optic cable handling, and basic fiber diagnostics
Proficiency in Cat5/6 installation, termination, testing, and labeling
Experience supporting AV equipment such as projectors, displays, media players, and speakers
Experience with Windows, macOS, tablets, and peripherals
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work weekends and respond to system outages during off-duty hours
Experience in designing and wiring layouts for offices/rooms
Familiarity with IT ticketing systems and equipment inventory management
Honesty, integrity, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment, enthusiasm, and follow-through
Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees

Preferred

Experience with museum exhibition technology
Familiarity with Point-of-Sale troubleshooting
Familiarity with Wi-Fi network topography and troubleshooting
Experience with UniFi or Cisco networking environments
Experience with network enclosure/rack organization, patch panel layout, and cable management
Experience in a museum, arts and culture, or nonprofit organization with multiple worksites
Understanding of and dedication to advancing the Honolulu Museum of Art's identity, vision, and values
