Assistant Director of Finance

LHH is partnering with a mission-driven organization in Sacramento that’s hiring an Assistant Director of Finance to support the Controller and CFO and help drive strong financial stewardship across the organization. This role involves budgeting, reporting, audit preparation, and strategic finance, making it an excellent opportunity for a CPA or CPA-track professional with public accounting experience.

Responsibilities

Serve as a key finance partner supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting across departments, grants, and projects
Own budget-to-actual analysis and prepare clear financial narratives and visual reporting for leadership
Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
Play a lead role in audit preparation and act as a key point of contact during the annual audit
Assist with tax schedules and respond to auditor and tax inquiries
Help improve and scale accounting processes, controls, and best practices
Support grant and contract financial reporting, as applicable
Provide guidance to accounting staff and collaborate cross-functionally with leadership

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
Strong foundation in GAAP
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis across multiple cost centers or entities
Comfortable presenting financial information to leadership and partnering across departments
Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems
Serve as a key finance partner supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting across departments, grants, and projects
Own budget-to-actual analysis and prepare clear financial narratives and visual reporting for leadership

Preferred

CPA or active CPA-track strongly preferred
public accounting background highly desired
Master's a plus
nonprofit accounting experience is a plus, not required
