Senior Managing Director, State and Local Government Affairs

Responsibilities
Responsible for recommending corporate strategy on public policy issues and presenting corporate positions to key members of state and local elected offices
Oversees management interaction with senior-level decision makers in the legislative and executive branches at the state and local level
Partners with Regional Business Managers, Area Managers, senior management and market leaders on stakeholder, client visits
Analyzes public policies to determine their impact on the firm, its clients and the industry; works directly with industry firms and leaders to craft solutions to issues that may arise from those policies
Advises senior management on political, policy and state and local legislative trends and their potential impact in the firm
Directs and represents the firm's participation in various industry associations, business groups and legislative coalitions. This includes elected officials’ associations such as USCM, NLC, RGA/DGA etc
Partners with state and local government, trade, civic and business organizations to support WSP / Industry views and goals
Works with the company on implementing social and civic engagement opportunities and to enhance community outreach initiatives
Supports / collaborates with market colleagues across the US Region (Transportation, Energy, Water and Environment, Property and Buildings, Advisory Services and Federal Programs and Logistics) and engages with US region on pursuits, project delivery and monitoring
Provides strategic business development by creation or early initiation of project opportunities across each of the US Region business groups
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in political science, government affairs or a related area
Minimum of 15+ years in the A/E and or government relations fields preferred
Ability to manage multiple projects/assignments simultaneously
Ability to travel frequently
Preferred
Experience working for a public official(s) at the state and local level
Experience in working in a campaign environment
