SENIOR BRIDGE RATINGS ENGINEER (CIVIL ENGINEER IV)

The State of Illinois is seeking a Senior Bridge Ratings Engineer to join the Department of Transportation. This role involves determining structural ratings of highway system structures and recommending overload permits, ensuring safe transportation for the state.

Responsibilities

Determines the load ratings and load carrying capacities for structures located on the state highway system
Recommends approval/disapproval of overload permits, construction overloads, and requests for additional overlay as well as related load restrictions
Identifies American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and Bridge Rating (BrR) system limitations and recommends necessary enhancements
Utilizes additional computer programs including Structural Analysis and Design Software (STAAD), Load and Resistance Factor Rating (LARS), and Model Analyze Design (MIDAS) to modify data for desired results
Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees
Performs other duties as assigned

Qualification

Licensed Professional EngineerCivil Engineering ExperienceStructural Engineering KnowledgeBridge Inspection CertificationStructural Analysis SoftwareCooperative RelationshipsCommunication Skills

Required

Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois
Four years of experience in civil engineering

Preferred

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of structural engineering with special emphasis on bridge load rating, design, construction, maintenance, and inspection
Current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois
Bridge Inspection Certification of Program Manager or Team Leader in the state of Illinois
Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers and the public
Strong oral and written communication skills
