Assistant Grocery Manager

Tom Thumb Supermarket is seeking an Assistant Grocery Manager to enhance customer service and oversee store operations. The role involves managing employee productivity, ensuring compliance with store standards, and maintaining inventory control.

Responsibilities

Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with emphasis on fast and friendly service
Assist customers by making product suggestions
Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, intercom announcements, and one-on-one interactions
Answer and respond to incoming calls appropriately; resolve customer complaints and report to Store Director as needed
Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director (see Store Director job description)
Assist with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes for compliance and profitability
Build grocery displays, rotate stock, and discard outdated or spoiled products
Ensure cleanliness of work area and department
Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays; assist with coordinating grocery sales promotions
Ensure merchandise is correctly priced, displayed, and shelves are clean and properly maintained
Follow and maintain department standards and requirements
Monitor employee productivity
May schedule employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels
Possess specific knowledge of duties performed by all department employees, including Opening/Closing, Dairy, and Frozen
Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees
Train employees in store policies, sales, and record-keeping procedures
Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook
Ensure proper code dating for all products within the department
Implement correct product preparation techniques
Prepare sales and inventory reports; conduct physical inventory every 6 months
Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness
Maintain inventory levels according to division directives; stock and rotate product
Assist with ordering grocery products and maintaining inventory levels per division guidelines
Supervise reclamation processing and maintain orderly backroom and department conditions
Control shrink and costs
Operate related equipment such as pallet jack, hand truck, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machine
