The City of O'Fallon is seeking a Public Works Maintenance - Streets employee to participate in the maintenance and repair of the city’s streets and storm sewer infrastructure. The role involves operating heavy machinery and performing various street maintenance duties under general supervision.

Responsibilities

Assists in the cleaning and unclogging of storm sewer lines, manholes and catch basins; assists other personnel in such tasks as laying storm sewer lines, building manholes and catch basins

Assists other employees in miscellaneous concrete work

Performs various street maintenance duties, such as cleaning gutters; spreading and shoveling snow; picking up fallen tree limbs and branches; assisting in the installing and cleaning of culverts

Loads and unloads heavy materials from trucks; operates heavy machinery and power equipment

Engages in a variety of grounds maintenance work, such as cultivating, pruning, spraying and trimming; cuts grass and weeds with hand tools and power mowers

Performs routine maintenance work, such as filling equipment with fuel, checking oil, sharpening mower blades, and other related work

Assists in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment, inspects equipment for safety and makes repairs as needed

Performs routine maintenance on new and existing traffic control devices, such as installing, repairing and replacing traffic signs and signposts

Ability to work overtime and staggered shift assignments, including weekends, as needed

Availability is required for emergency callouts to repair water line breaks, manage sewer back ups, or removal of snow from city streets and properties

Performs related work as required

Understand, interpret, explain, and apply relevant policies, procedures, and regulations

Technical competence and basic electrical skills

Ability to use, (or learn to use), a variety of tools and equipment effectively

High School diploma, or equivalent

Two years of Public Works maintenance experience

Valid Drivers' License with driving record in good standing as required by the City's insurance company; commercial driver's license classification B, (CDL-B)

Ability to work outside in all weather conditions, (i.e. hot, cold, wet, etc.)

Ability to work in confined spaces

Ability to pass an essential functions evaluation showing physical ability to accomplish the work

Ability to lift, carry, push, pull 100 pounds frequently
