Responsibilities

Ensure appropriate bottom-line targets for all practices' service lines are developed and met relative to financial performance through revenue enhancement and cost containment, including but not limited to:
Increasing volumes through new service offerings
Physician recruitment and involvement in third-party negotiations
Attention to financial variances, variable expenses, capital purchases and development of outcomes management
Recommend financial targets and prepare budgets
Lead proposals for new resources and FTE
Ensure appropriate quality targets are developed and met; assure development and implementation of outcomes management and associated performance targets, including but not limited to patient satisfaction surveys, physician relations and continuing education; monitor variances; recommend and implement corrective action
Develop and maintain partnerships across the Health System for continued growth and development of clinical services to support strategic integration of palliative care into the standard of care within Duke Health
Use data to understand internal and external trends and to develop targeted growth campaigns and partnerships with indicated specialties
Ensure departmental billing and clinical practice compliance
Lead physician scheduling and coverage planning in alignment with clinical, operational, and financial priorities
Monitor market conditions and costs
Work with marketing and communications functions to develop promotional programs that reinforce the core components of palliative care while also providing education
Design, develop and recommend appropriate service line extensions including the strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of an annual Palliative Care Workshop and associated interest groups to advance education, engagement, team member experience and program visibility across the health system
Provide oversight of the Palliative Care Volunteer Program, including program structure, role development, alignment with clinical priorities, collaboration with Volunteer Services, and evaluation of volunteer impact on patient, family, and staff experience
Maintain well-coordinated recruitment processes
Work with Medical Staff Services to develop and enhance physician relations and recruiting
Develop, evaluate, and maintain comprehensive onboarding and orientation pathways for new staff
Develop, monitor, and update the department business plan
Coordinate growth plans and outcome measures with hospital and health system goals
Monitor level of resources utilized in service delivery and determine appropriateness of resource consumption in the service
Develop and administer physician incentive compensation plan in alignment with Health System goals
Provide mentorship and development opportunities for frontline supervisors
Implement effective management structures for related staff disciplines (i.e. Nursing, Social Work etc.) and provide oversight to frontline supervisors
Maintain positive work-culture
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Required

Bachelor's degree required
Work requires seven years of progressive administrative experience, typically in a hospital, healthcare, or similar service industry, to become proficient in managing the quality of care and financial performance over an assigned hospital service line
A master's degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration or a related field may be substituted for experience on a 1:1 basis
