Intelligent Manufacturing Solutions (IMS) is seeking a Sr. Scientist in Optical Engineering to play a critical role in development and production efforts. The position involves hands-on responsibilities including hardware integration, testing, and providing technical support throughout the laser development programs.

Responsibilities

Performs and coordinates development of advanced laser and optical systems

Performs analytical models / analysis of these systems, development of Proof of Concept (POC) models. This hands-on role also supports manufacturing, test and supply chain during the hardware phases up to and including production units

Interaction with customers’ and potential customers’ technical teams

Technical input for proposals in support of Business Development and Engineering teams

Estimate resource and material needs for project/product as it relates to the planned tasks

Support other functional areas to include recommendations for testing and production

Interface with optical vendors providing technical documentation and guidance as needed for them to supply their components to meet system requirements

Coordinate production transition / hand off to operations and quality efforts

Provide recommendations on investments to improve operational efficiencies in the engineering organization

Assist with technical roadmap development for product lines

Occasional travel to customer and supplier sites and other IMS locations as needed

Required

U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Strong project management skills

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well within and outside of the organization with customers, vendors and leadership with minimal oversight

Ability to effectively communicate and transfer system architecture and design knowledge with other disciplines including software and hardware engineering, manufacturing, program management, suppliers and customers

Experience writing BOE's and supporting proposals

Familiarity with optical alignment techniques for verification testing and ability to develop advanced test stations

Able to provide technical leadership, mentorship and guidance to junior engineers

Action and result oriented

Ability to work efficiently under pressure and to tight deadlines

Willingness to take on project ownership and accountability

PhD and minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience

12+ years of Optical Engineering experience in a DoD laser environment

12+ years' experience writing technical documentation and developing analysis and reports

Proficient with standard and advanced optical engineering software including, but not limited to: Wolfram Mathematica, MATLAB/Simulink, Optica

Experience with best practices for optical engineering and program execution and managing multi-discipline programs
