Advanced HEV Simulation and Performance Research Engineer

Responsibilities
Conduct detailed vehicle-level attribute analysis (fuel economy, performance, emissions, thermal management, passenger comfort) using high-fidelity simulation models across diverse xEV architectures to drive development and optimization of Ford’s current and future xEV offerings
Utilize models employing 1D and 3D methods to ensure comprehensive engine-out and tailpipe emissions analysis and assessment of compliance
Perform functional validation and correlation of high-fidelity vehicle and propulsion system models against physical test data, ensuring accuracy and reliability across steady-state and transient operating conditions
Lead and execute large-scale attribute optimization studies leveraging HPC/cloud environments to balance system performance objectives over regulatory cycles and representative real-world customer driving profiles
Develop intuitive dashboards and reports to effectively visualize and communicate complex simulation results and real-world data insights to engineering teams and stakeholders
Collaborate extensively with propulsion systems controls and calibration engineering teams, as well as other cross-functional teams (thermal, climate, etc.) to influence design decisions by providing simulation-based analysis and insights
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
3+ years of experience with analyzing various hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) architectures, including but not limited to full, plug-in, series, parallel, powersplit, and range extender systems
3+ years of experience with analyzing electrified propulsion systems hardware and controls, including combustion engines, electric machines, batteries, thermal systems, driveline, and chassis systems
3+ years of experience with operation, modeling and control of internal combustion engines and aftertreatment systems for ensuring regulatory compliance
3+ years of experience with MATLAB / Simulink / Stateflow
3+ years of experience with other relevant simulation tools (e.g., GT-SUITE, AVL CRUISE M, AMESim, etc.)
1+ years of experience with version control systems (e.g., GitHub, GitLab, SVN) and automation concepts
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills, including strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Demonstrated initiative, resilience, a strong work ethic, and a desire for continuous learning
Preferred
Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
Direct experience with model development of specific complex xEV architectures (e.g., powersplit, series, parallel, and advanced multi-mode hybrids)
Thorough understanding of current and upcoming EPA emissions regulations for light-duty /heavy-duty vehicles and technology pathways for meeting compliance requirements
Working knowledge of thermal and hydraulic systems as applied to hybrid electric architectures as well as automotive climate systems and passenger comfort
Experience with optimization techniques and tools applied to engineering problems
Experience working with large datasets, particularly automotive telematics or connected vehicle data and with developing data visualization dashboards
Familiarity or experience with high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud environments for simulations/optimizations
Experience contributing to technology roadmaps or advanced engineering projects
