Lead Mobile Software Engineer – Android

WIS International is a global leader in inventory solutions, and FlexCount is their rapidly growing SaaS platform delivering real-time inventory intelligence to retailers worldwide. They are seeking a Lead Mobile Software Engineer to be a technical leader within the Android team, owning complex problem spaces and driving impactful solutions.

Responsibilities

Identify, define, and lead cross-org mobile programs that remove critical blockers to company objectives (e.g., 99.99% offline availability, sub-second sync on 100k+ devices, zero-touch device provisioning at scale)
Architect and deliver breakthrough mobile systems that achieve measurable company-level outcomes (e.g., multi-million-dollar cost savings, new revenue-enabling capabilities, or category-defining reliability)
Set and evolve the long-term (2-5 year) mobile technical strategy and roadmap; align it with executive leadership and product strategy
Own resolution of the most complex, ambiguous, and high-severity problems spanning mobile, backend, firmware, and third-party hardware
Establish and enforce mobile engineering standards, patterns, and platforms adopted by all Android squads and influencing other client teams
Build or champion foundational libraries, tooling, or infrastructure that become de-facto standards across the entire engineering organization
Drive upstream leadership in key open-source projects we depend on; become a recognized voice in the Android OSS ecosystem when relevant
Mentor and develop senior engineers; actively grow the next generation of lead and senior engineers
Lead mobile hiring strategy, calibration, and promotion committees; personally close senior and staff-level candidates
Represent FlexCount mobile engineering externally when needed (conferences, OSS governance, vendor technical councils)
Act as incident commander for company-level mobile incidents; ensure systemic fixes prevent recurrence at scale

Required

8+ years of professional Android development experience
Proven track record of owning large problem spaces in production apps used by thousands of daily active users
Expertise in performance optimization, offline-first systems, and rugged/enterprise device constraints
Experience leading complex re-architecture efforts and shipping safely to 100% of users
Strong ability to mentor engineers and contribute to team growth
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Experience implementing Real User Monitoring (RUM) to track and analyze customer journeys within mobile applications

Preferred

Significant contributions to open-source Android libraries
Experience defining and rolling out mobile platform strategies
Familiarity with scaling Android apps across large device fleets (50k+ devices)
