LAN Administrator - Senior
King County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Senior LAN Administrator to support the Digital Forensics Unit of the Criminal Investigations Division. This role involves managing storage and backup infrastructure, maintaining a secure network for digital evidence, and providing IT support to detectives in the unit.

Responsibilities
Leads the management of storage and backup infrastructure including physical storage, data replication, data backup, data protection, & data recovery of digital evidence
Maintains an isolated network of Forensics Unit computers and Evidence servers
Implements and maintains best practice Information Security, such as data loss prevention and logging software, on the forensics isolated network
Provides IT support to the Detectives of the Digital Forensics unit to improve the daily work, including tasks such as case management platform maintenance and software licensing acquisition and renewal
Assists Detectives of the Digital Forensics Unit in the repair of physically damaged electronic evidence items to prepare for forensic examination
Assists Detectives in maintaining forensic workstations, storage arrays, and forensic software
Provide technical support for both KC\KCSO and DFU specific software
Assists DFU clients, e.g. Major Crimes detectives, accessing forensic returns
Research forensic software, storage hardware and media, network technologies, etc
Develop, price, and explain proposals to maintain or expand lab capabilities
Sanitize and test storage media for lab use
Assist detectives researching unfamiliar technology, testing procedures, and identifying and implementing best practices
Repair of damaged cellphones by replacing screens, components, charging ports, etc., to allow forensic extraction
Process and provide reports from cloud warrant returns
Assists with search warrants or operations as needed, sometimes outside of normal working hours
Assisting time-intensive investigations, where atypical filesystems, storage devices, other data/devices require research and byte level analysis
Develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive data backup and restoration plan to protect KCSO DFU data in the event of operational problem, catastrophic event/failure, or a cyber-incident
Inventories and retrieves digital evidence without altering original
Monitors backup infrastructure and ensures backup jobs are running successfully, and regularly performs test restores of data replication and backups
Evaluates existing backup and disaster recovery strategies, formulates and implements improvements
Actively monitors storage infrastructure including utilization, performance, and growth trends and forecasts future storage needs
Demonstrates data recoverability during disaster recovery exercises meets or exceed defined business requirements and recovery targets
Oversees the placement of encrypted backup media and key recovery materials to appropriate off-site storage facilities
Qualification
Required
Experience designing or leading storage and backup infrastructure
Experience in maintaining a small network with high information security procedures applied
Experience in providing IT support to a customer base with sophisticated IT needs
Experience with evidence and information security
Experience with the physical repair of electronics such as mobile phones and tablets
Thorough understanding of storage and backup design, specifications, and testing methodologies
Network analysis fundamentals and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work professionally with sensitive content
Ability to work well with a small team and with little supervision
Preferred
Knowledge of trends and developments in the fields of physical & virtual storage management, backup & recovery technologies, and data protection
Ability to effectively communicate and document their involvement with casework, which may ultimately result in court-room testimony
Knowledge and/or training in digital forensic techniques and practices
Digital Forensics and Incident Response training – SANS, IACIS, or similar providers
Working with law-enforcement
