Responsibilities
Perform Supplier Quality oversight of suppliers, with particular emphasis on suppliers of Mechanical commodities (Pumps & Machinery)
Interfacing with suppliers in order to: audit/assess the supplier's Quality Management System and their capabilities for performing critical manufacturing processes
Perform related studies to help insure that Engineering and Procurement specifications are met
Initiate/validate supplier corrective/preventive actions to drive resolution of problems discovered during supplier assessments
Help train/develop suppliers
Investigate or coordinate the investigation and resolution of material-related non-conformances
Interface with internal Procurement and Engineering functions to facilitate the development and communication of part ordering requirements
Technical writing and customer relations skills are essential
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience
Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
Must be able to obtain DOD security clearance
Working experience in a manufacturing environment is desired, preferably including Quality Engineering, such as inspection, auditing, statistical analysis, quality assurance and quality control
Prior experience in a Supplier Quality Engineering role is a plus
Project management/leadership experience is desired
Lean and Six Sigma training/certification is desired

Prior experience in an Engineering design environment
Prior experience in a Supplier Quality role/environment
Prior experience in Shipyard waterfront operations
Prior experience in a Manufacturing/process engineering environment
Prior experience in Auditing
Data analysis experience using MS-Excel
Technical writing and customer relations skills
