DEVELOPMENT SITE INSPECTOR

Responsibilities

Interprets and enforces ordinances and codes related to land disturbance, soil erosion, and sediment control of new and existing construction at residential, commercial, and industrial construction sites: inspects properties in the process of construction, alteration, or repair; verifies conformance to applicable codes and ordinances and approved plans; issues correction or violation notices for non-compliance; and re-visits areas with repeat violators
Conducts inspections of each component of site plans: inspects sanitary sewer pipe and manholes for proper size, material, installation, and insulation; conducts proper air and mandrel testing; inspects curb and gutter installation for correct measurements and material; inspects different layers of road construction using test rolling and core testing; inspects site for proper installation of erosion control devices throughout different stages of project; inspects traffic improvements and street name signs following MUTCD and county approved plans; compares installed items to copies of as-built and plat; and ensures that everything corresponds
Notifies responsible contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, or homeowners of code violations; discusses corrective options; issues citations; makes recommendations for stop work orders if necessary; documents findings and recommended solutions
Administers maintenance and performance bonds for site development: calculates amount of performance bond(s) as required for each project; maintains bond documents; inspects completed work; and returns bonds that meet standards
Inspects and approves construction and installation of streets, street signs, street striping, curb, gutter, sidewalk, storm drains, and sanitary sewers as assigned
Notifies responsible inspectors, contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, or homeowners of code violations; discusses corrective options; issues violations; makes recommendations for stop work orders if necessary; documents findings and recommended solutions
Receives and responds to complaints from the public regarding related ordinances; records and monitors status of complaints from citizens; collects information and researches complaints; determines validity of alleged violations and initiates appropriate actions; maintains records of response to complaints
Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation; prepares/completes a variety of inspection reports; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy inspection records
Maintains a current, comprehensive knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, principles and practices relating to site development, soil and erosion control, and construction procedures; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission Meetings, homeowners association meetings, workshops, hearings, and training sessions as required; and maintains required inspection certification

Required

Associate's Degree in or a related field required
Five years of experience in civil engineering, road construction, or construction inspection
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
Must possess and maintain valid certifications and training in Georgia Soil & Water Conservation Commission Level I B Certified Inspector within twelve (12) months of hire date
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license
Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position
