VDC Technician
Skywrite Group is seeking a Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Technician to manage and coordinate Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design & Construction processes. The role involves developing precise models for various building systems and ensuring seamless integration of digital workflows to optimize project delivery.
Responsibilities
Develop accurate, professional fabrication drawings from architectural, structural, and mechanical contract prints, adhering to company engineering standards
Create construction-ready models that are fully installable. Ensure spool lengths and other fabricated building components meet client or site specifications, and that routing allows for easy accessibility
Manage project-specific clash detection and assist in resolving both hard and soft collisions. Assign viewpoints for detailers to clear clashes
Register, clean, and extract features from point cloud and imagery data. This includes modeling in Faro Scene and Revit, as well as overall file management
Verify easements, setbacks, and property boundaries against contract documents by establishing property corners, job site control, and checkpoints
Customize sheet layouts, dimensions, styles, scales, and viewpoints to the client’s specifications
Prepare, as-needed, construction documentation management for the facility, which may include scanning paper plans into PDF, file organization, and asset management
Create BOMs (Bills of Materials)
Create Points for all RTS & GPS, such as Trimble™, Topcon™, et al
Coordinate and manage Revit™ models
Create Revit families
Maintain project drawing files, drawing library, and associated records and documentation for each project
Review all work for completeness and accuracy
Design and virtually build modules, building components, and kits
Work closely with VDC Specialist, VDC Jr Tech’s and Youth Apprentices
Qualification
Required
Associates degree in Architecture, Construction, or any combination of education and/or trade experience that would meet the responsibilities listed above
Self-motivated to continuously improve and learn new tools and processes
Proficiency in BIM software such as Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Revizto, Bluebeam, or similar platforms. Field experience is valued in lieu of proficiency of software
Experience in detailing drawings for architectural, structural, or MEP
Comprehensive knowledge of building construction principles and techniques
Highly attentive to detail with excellent problem-solving skills
Strong collaboration skills
Possesses excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to various audiences
Proven critical thinking abilities, adept at creative problem-solving, navigating ambiguity, and prioritizing tasks effectively
Focus on maintaining top-quality deliverables with a detail-oriented approach
Willing to train others and share knowledge
