Chief People Officer

They are seeking a Chief People Officer to enhance their talent evaluation and people architecture processes, focusing on identifying exceptional candidates from technical or finance backgrounds and improving clarity around roles and expectations within the firm.

Responsibilities

Own evaluation for all senior and high-leverage roles
Build high-signal assessments: work samples, cases, structured interviews, technical screens (as appropriate)
Distinguish strong-but-wrong-fit from genuinely exceptional
Push back when a candidate doesn’t meet the bar; advocate when the right outlier appears
Track your own accuracy over time (quality of hire vs. prediction)
Identify candidates from technical, analytical, or finance environments who are capable but under-placed
Build long-term relationships with high-upside individuals (1–3 year horizon)
Maintain a live map of talent pools relevant to Deeter: where to look, who to watch, and what competitors are doing
Translate founder and leadership needs into clear talent specifications
Define role scope, expectations, decision rights, and interfaces
Improve communication loops and reduce ambiguity in hiring and team composition
Support performance clarity by ensuring people understand what “good” looks like
This work should stay lightweight, practical, and aligned with a small, high-leverage team
Own basic onboarding and offboarding
Coordinate with external providers for payroll, benefits, compliance
Ensure we meet legal requirements without building unnecessary processes

Required

Technical or finance background (e.g., trading, quant, engineering, research, data science, fintech), OR you have recruited extensively for these roles

Strong evaluator of people: you see patterns, inconsistencies, and potential quickly and accurately
Direct communicator with mature judgment
Low-ego and hands-on: willing to source, evaluate, schedule, and close
Comfortable in ambiguity and low-management environments
Prefer precision and clarity over process and polish
Good instincts for matching people to roles and spotting misallocation early
