Meat Manager

Responsibilities

Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with emphasis on fast and friendly service
Assist customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders, and providing food preparation suggestions
Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via phone, intercom, and one-on-one interactions
Plan daily operations and monitor production processes for compliance and profitability
Trim, cut, wrap, tray, and display meat products
Build meat and seafood displays; rotate stock and discard outdated or spoiled products
Maintain cleanliness of work area and department
Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays
Oversee operation and maintenance of meat cooler, freezer, and butcher block
Follow and maintain department standards and requirements for handling quick-sale items
Run cutting tests on meat products to monitor profitability
Ensure trim specifications and cutting standards are followed
Maintain proper temperatures during all phases of meat preparation, display, and storage
Understand opening and closing department procedures
Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees
Schedule employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels
Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance
Train employees on store policies, sales, and record-keeping procedures
Identify and train employees with high potential for advancement
Initiate personnel actions such as interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions
Prepare sales and inventory reports; conduct physical inventory every 4 weeks
Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness; maintain inventory levels per division directives
Stock and rotate product; maintain and organize meat cooler
Control shrink and costs
Implement correct product preparation techniques
Use and operate equipment such as pallet jack, hand truck, scissors, knives, safety cutters, grinder, saws, saw blades, and cuber
Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook
Ensure proper code dating for all products within the department
Accurately complete, maintain, and monitor daily log sheets, Production Chart, Meat Grinding Log, Sales and Labor reports, and other required paperwork
Perform receiving duties: break down loads, verify orders using invoices, inspect quality, report shortages, stock and rotate product
Adhere to product temperature and storage guidelines; follow proper packaging techniques
Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate department records
