The California Department of Developmental Services is seeking an Information Technology Specialist I to support their Information Security Office. The role involves building and managing data loss prevention tools to secure enterprise data and minimize risks associated with unauthorized disclosures.

Responsibilities

Building and operationalizing existing data loss prevention (DLP) tools necessary to identify and secure enterprise data following industry standard practices
Building, managing, investigating, and optimizing tools to monitor data pipelines and network infrastructure to minimize the risk of unauthorized disclosure of protected information
Availability for 24/7 on-call and weekend support as required
Occasional travel (up to 10 percent) for business-related activities

Required

Candidates must be residents of the State of California at the time of appointment
This position requires lawful authorization to work in the United States

Preferred

Knowledge Of: Microsoft Purview including Data Governance Solutions, Data Security Solutions, Data Compliance Solutions, Microsoft, Microsoft 365, Copilot, Defender, SIEM, NIST 800-53 and or SIMM (State information Management Manual), HIPPA, PHI, and HITECH
Scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, and KQL
Ability To: Demonstrated ability to secure Personal Information (PI), Personal Health Information (PHI), and other sensitive data in compliance with PII and HIPAA regulations
Applied data classification and tagging policies to ensure secure handling of sensitive information across cloud and on-premises environments
Experience in DLP technologies including Microsoft Purview and Symantec DLP, with experience implementing and maintaining policies to prevent unauthorized access or exfiltration
Proficient in monitoring, investigating, and responding to DLP-related compliance alerts using DLP consoles and tools, ensuring alignment with regulatory frameworks such as HIPAA
Background in server and system administration within secure environments
Strong communication and documentation capabilities
Ability to collaborate with data governance, privacy, and security teams to support compliant data pipeline deployment and enforce organizational data protection standards
