Accounting Clerk I
The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies responsible for the care and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. They are seeking an Accounting Clerk I to manage Offender Trust Fund operations, process financial transactions, and provide support for facility accounting tasks.

Responsibilities
Work with Offender Trust Fund operations
Bank deposits
Process purchase requests (DC-440s) for Offender Welfare Expenditures
Process Offender Money Orders Requests
Canteen Reports
Other accounting functions
Prepare responses based on research for Offender Grievances
Frequent contact with NCDAC Staff relative to Offender Trust Fund
Contact with outside vendors and general public
Work closely with the mailroom staff in regards to incoming funds through the intake process and the mail as well as postage expenses
Provide backup to the other facility accounting staff and accounts payable duties
Work independently and meet constant deadlines while performing several tasks simultaneously
Provide backup support for equipment control and other accounting and administrative areas as necessary
Qualification
Required
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Basic knowledge of spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
Basic knowledge of office practices and procedures
Basic knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices
Ability to arrange and place records, reports, files and other documents into a defined sequence
Ability to screen and refer communications using defined procedures
Ability to use a variety of standard office equipment
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures
Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone
Ability to learn the use of special office equipment
Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations
