Engineering Assistant I - City

The City of Oklahoma City is seeking an Engineering Assistant I to join its Engineering Division within the Utilities Department. This role involves considerable responsibility for the design and generation of plans for proposed construction projects, particularly related to water and wastewater systems.

Government

Responsibilities

Reviewing plans related to water and wastewater systems
Providing planning services
Processing record information requests
Collaborating with contractors, consultants, engineers, and other City departments to deliver support and guidance on water and wastewater utility matters
Gathering data for use in project designs or reports
Reviewing construction plans and making recommended revisions on the basis of technical merit
Responding to information requests
Writing work orders, construction specifications, and other documents necessary for contract compliance or future reference
Supervising technical support staff by delegating, prioritizing, and reviewing their work

Required

Knowledge of standards and design alternatives in the assigned work area (e.g., paving, drainage, sanitary sewer, water lines, or airport construction.)
Knowledge of available data sources for information required on plans and in reports
Knowledge of required inclusions on technical drawings
Skill in assessing salient technical information
Skill in efficient, accurate, and complete disposition of projects
Skill in conveying technical information both verbally and in writing
Skill in critically reviewing drawings for design, accuracy, and neatness
Skill in relating written technical information to drawings
Skill in performing mathematical computations following standard formulas
Skill in determining the most appropriate designs to meet field conditions and applicable standards
Skill in preparing cost estimates
Skill in supervising
Ability to retain and recall information
Ability to keep abreast of project status in the assigned work area
Ability to travel

Preferred

Ability to effectively meet tight deadlines, compile and analyze technical data
Experience in reviewing and drafting blueprints using drafting software
Experience and knowledge of GIS software
Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Programs
Experience working with a wide array of professionals, such as Plumbers, Engineers, Utility Contractors, etc
