Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is seeking an Environmental Engineer to support emergency services operations. The role involves receiving emergency calls, dispatching personnel, and monitoring radio systems to ensure public safety.

Responsibilities

Answers 911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) telephone lines and other emergency telephone lines, and obtains pertinent information for dispatching of police vehicles
Monitors and operates the radio systems from mutual aide governmental frequencies
Operates radio consoles and an emergency telephone board
Uses communications and computer assisted dispatch equipment in accordance with established procedures
Works with departmental field personnel utilizing two-way radio; compiles data from rough drafts or brief instructions
Checks and reviews a variety of data for completion and in conformance with established regulations and procedures
Assists in training probationary Emergency Services Operators

Required

Must type 40 net words per minute, evidenced by a typing certificate submitted to the Human Resources Department
Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance, such as: one year of responsible radio/telephone experience or one year related clerical experience
Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the radio procedures of the FCC
Ability to speak clearly and concisely
Ability to maintain records and prepare reports
Ability to type 40 words per minute
Ability to read and understand departmental rules and regulations
Ability to perform with multiple incidents occurring simultaneously
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and co-workers
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and positive work relationships
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction
Ability to exercise good judgement and make sound decisions in emergency situations
Ability to operate a computer aided dispatch system, computer systems and other office equipment quickly and accurately
Possession of or ability to obtain a Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record

Preferred

Radio operation, computer assisted dispatching and teletype experience
