Supervisor, Welding (Starship)
SpaceX is actively developing technologies to enable human life on Mars. The Supervisor, Welding (Starship) will lead and manage a team of technicians, supervise production processes, and ensure high-quality welding standards are met.

Responsibilities
Lead and manage a staff of ~30 technicians or welders, including all performance management-related tasks
Supervise the production floor, including daily schedules and workflow
Provide technical support to the welding team
Work with management and engineering teams to streamline the fit-up and welding processes
Assist with the tooling and fixturing designs required for weld / fit-up operation
Responsible for control of production weld quality
Apply welding codes and hold high workmanship standards with the production team
Enforce site and personnel safety
Review work instructions and make change recommendations when needed
Assess candidates and provide recommendations in the hiring process
Responsible for planning and scheduling work, assigning work, and assessing completed work
Communicate how successful performance will be measured and provide collaborative direction to team members; recommend performance standards and ratings
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or associate degree and 4+ years of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), or gas metal arc welding (GMAW) experience or 8+ years of professional experience in metal fabrication
2+ years of experience in a leadership role
Must be willing to work long hours and weekends as needed
Must be willing to travel to our launch sites in support of launch specific projects and/or pad modifications
Must be able to work for prolonged periods in a confined space
Must be willing to work outdoors
Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
Stand: Up to 10 hours per day
Sit: Up to 1 hour per day
Push/Pull: Up to 75lbs. (unassisted) 2 hours or longer per day
Overhead reach: Up to 3 hours per day
Walk: Up to 1 hour per day
Lift/Carry: Up to 50lbs. (unassisted) 2 hours or longer per day
Climb (ladder/stairs): Up to 1 hour per day
Kneel/Crouch: Up to 3 hours per day
Upper body twist: Up to 3 hours per day
Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees Up to 1 hour per day
Candidate must be capable of safely working in confined spaces and using an air purifying respirator, operating heavy equipment and machinery, and performing the physical requirements of the job listed in the job description
Candidate may be required to complete a pre-employment questionnaire and/or physical to confirm these capabilities, which may include a medical history review
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
Preferred
Experience managing more than 10 employees
Ability to interpret drawings and weld symbols per AWS D17.1
Knowledge of AWS D1.1, D1.6, and D1.2
Experience with pipe, orbital tube welding (OTW), and/or other fluid system fabrication, welding, and assembly
General welding, cutting, and fabrication equipment knowledge, theory, application, maintenance and testing
Fabrication of large-scale welded assemblies to tight dimensional tolerances
Trade school certificate
