Responsibilities

Leads content strategy for exhibitions, defining frameworks, narratives, goals, and primary messages that guide design and media development
Translates complex scientific research into clear, compelling, and inclusive interpretive experiences for diverse audiences
Establishes and applies the museum’s voice, content standards, and accessibility best practices across exhibitions and platforms
Serves as a core member of an interdisciplinary exhibits team, collaborating with closely with designers, digital media producers, educators, and research staff from concept through production
Develops, reviews, and approves exhibit text and media content, balancing scientific integrity, visitor experience, and project constraints
Leads exhibit evaluation and visitor insight initiatives, integrating feedback to refine and improve interpretive effectiveness
Supervises and mentors content staff, while coordinating interns, volunteers, and contractors as needed to support exhibit and evaluation work

Required

Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media journalism, English, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution
two years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work
Ability to work the schedule of Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with a 1-hour lunch and occasional evening, weekend and holiday work required as needed
Required Documentation: Applicants must submit a portfolio, or samples of work demonstrating interpretive writing and content development experience

Preferred

Demonstrated experience in interpretive and content strategy, including developing frameworks, narratives, goals, and/or outcomes for exhibitions
Knowledge of translating complex scientific information into clear and engaging interpretive content
Demonstrated experience collaborating on interdisciplinary teams to align content with research, education, and experience goals
Working knowledge of exhibit evaluation and visitor research, and applying findings to content decisions
Knowledge of strong leadership, communication, and/or editorial judgment, including mentoring staff and managing content workflows
