Bayport Laboratories is seeking an inventive and highly strategic Director of R&D – Color Cosmetics to lead their formulation lab in the development of high-performance, clean, and on-trend color products. This role involves managing a team to innovate and create scalable formulas that meet client and consumer needs while ensuring regulatory compliance and quality standards.

Responsibilities

Lead the formulation and technical development of color cosmetics (lip, eye, face, and complexion)
Manage a team of chemists and technicians in a collaborative, innovation-first culture
Translate trend insights, client briefs, and consumer needs into innovative, scalable formulas
Partner cross-functionally to ensure smooth handoff from concept to commercialization
Drive a strong innovation pipeline using new raw materials, textures, and technologies
Ensure products meet all regulatory, safety, and quality standards globally
Contribute to IP development, technical claims, and prototype presentation
Foster a culture of curiosity, exploration, and excellence in formulation science

Required

8–10 years of formulation experience in the color cosmetics industry
Expertise in emulsion, anhydrous, pigment dispersion, and pressed powder technologies
Strong understanding of ingredient trends (e.g. clean, vegan, long-wear, multifunctional)
Proven leadership of R&D teams and complex product portfolios
Passion for innovation, formulation science, and working at the cutting edge of beauty
