Senior Design Engineer, BQE Central
The DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION is seeking a Senior Design Engineer for the BQE Central Project, which is crucial to New York City's transportation system. The role involves supporting engineering functions for major bridge reconstruction projects and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure project goals are met efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities
Advise leadership of the BQE Central Project on the development of project goals and objectives, in coordination with the Division of Bridges
Assist BQE Central SPO with the coordination, oversight, and evaluation of complex design reports, calculations, design plans, construction concepts and construction schedules. Ensure engineering work complies with Federal, State, City codes and standards
Assist in preparation of written reports/technical conclusions, memorandums, tabulated registers, and presentations through reviewing the rehabilitation design by consultants
Lead contract administration functions related to the BQE Central project; review contract documents and reports, and advises to the planning and scheduling of contract and any related work at the supervisor’s direction
Engage and coordinate various aspects of the BQE Central project with the BQE Joint Venture (BQE JV). The BQE JV is comprised by consultants dedicated to advancing the BQE Central Project alongside the NYC DOT staff assigned to this project
Represent the agency with external stakeholders such as FHWA, NYSDOT and other city, state, and federal agencies
Review of scope of work and cost estimate for extra work
Perform other related engineering and administrative duties at the request of the Program Engineer or the CSO
Qualification
Required
Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work
A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment
A masters degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required
Preferred
At least eight (8) years of full-time paid experience in civil or structural engineering work
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form
Ability to monitor and effectively review the activities of the consultants in the preparation of engineering analysis, study report, plans, specifications, and estimates
Knowledge of various aspects of an interstate corridor which includes technical requirements, City, State and Federal environmental processes, funding issues, community involvement, traffic control and procurement protocols
Proven track record in managing large scale transportation projects
Previous supervisory experience is a plus
