Responsibilities

Ability to read, understand and follow work instructions, specifications, workflow diagrams and SOPs
Assemble single image art files into multiple image layout formation through stepping
Add appropriate color control marks for graphics process control, printer registration marks and IDmarks to all press ready
Separate jobs into individual color image files
Prepare and transmit digital files for the engraving process
Prepare engraving folder and digital work record
Responsible for ensuring that all artworks are saved in designated file locations on the server with the appropriate document control file naming
Participate in process improvement efforts and various production meetings to foster a positive creative impact on the business
Output proofs as needed for internal checks and as specified on the order for customer review and approval
Check customer supplied files when starting a new job and compare it to the supplied hard copy for any differences and size conformity
Ensure that job instructions are aligned to artwork supplied and/or referenced
Verify colors used and check the resolution of any CT’s
Communicate questions, concerns, and issues to either internal or external stakeholders
Maintain high quality standards
Act as 2nd QC for higher complexity work
Troubleshoot incoming file issues as well as through the engraving process
Ability to print and inspect pre-press proofs
Provide direction, support and mentorship to Programmer team and train as needed
Understanding of hardware (Collage, printers, and RIP)
Work with Project Managers for questions regarding engraving specs and layouts

Required

High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Full comprehension in reading work instructions and business memos
Able to effectively communicate through writing of business letters, expositions, summaries, and reports, using prescribed form
Proofreading skills required
Ability to work independently after initial training
Troubleshoot electronic engraving complications
Understanding of engraving curves
Understanding of the engraving process and how it relates to Collage
Experience using the metric system when it comes to measurements
Experience using Computer imaging Applications and techniques
Must be able to work with various graphic design and layout software applications commonly used on Mac's and PC's
Good understanding of digital file formats (pdf, tiff, eps) from different operating systems (Mac and PC) is required
Basic color management skills and the ability to work with different digital formats are required
Must have the ability to output digital files to various output devices; must have the ability to continue to learn and use new graphics software on an ongoing basis
Must have an understanding of print processes and how one color affects another
Possess ability to learn and develop within a team and through direct mentorship
Attention to detail
Comply with all SGS standards and applicable regulations
Comply with SGS policies and Procedures to maintain a safe work environment
Keep work area organized and clean
Skilled in understanding layouts, customer instructions, and SGS's proprietary work order system
Ability to discerned when a customer request will not work on press and when questions should be asked, or a job stopped
Skill to problem solve and troubleshoot issues in Collage as it relates to engraving
Capable of setting up barrel test and insertion of copy or mechanics
Able to manage the archival systems and gammas

Preferred

Some College/associate degree preferred
3-5 years of work in a printing environment preferred
2-3 years' experience using Collage application
Adobe Creative Suite experience is a plus
