Development Officer

Avodah is a nonprofit organization seeking a Development Officer to steward and grow major donor portfolios in the Washington, DC, and New Orleans regions. The role involves managing donor relationships, supporting advisory councils, and planning stakeholder events.

Fundraising

Responsibilities

Grow and manage a portfolio of DC and NOLA-based donors through moves management activities, including cultivation, solicitation, thanking, and ongoing stewardship
Identify and pursue DC donor prospects, and follow up on any leads regarding NOLA prospects
Manage the DC Advisory Council, including running bi-monthly meetings, and engaging members as ambassadors in development efforts
Support the NOLA Program Director in running the NOLA Advisory Council (AC) and their quarterly meetings; prepare development-related content for NOLA AC meetings, work in collaboration with the NOLA Program Director and existing NOLA AC on leadership pipeline for the NOLA AC, and attend virtual NOLA AC meetings
Plan and implement at least two DC-specific stakeholder meetings/programs/small events annually
Support NOLA AC members/stakeholders in hosting parlor meetings
Manage the CEO’s portfolio in NOLA and DC
Serve as the primary point of contact for regional foundation funders, with support from the Director of Institutional Giving
Visit NOLA as needed (approximately one time annually) to meet with donors and/or help manage a donor engagement opportunity in collaboration with the NOLA Program Director and/or CEO
Collaborate with DC and NOLA Program Directors to stay updated on local programs, to be able to update local stakeholders and invite them to local events
Attend Jewish Federation of Greater Washington meetings
Invite DC and NOLA donors to national programs/events/calls
Visit the DC mailbox at least every other month; and
Other duties as assigned

Required

At least 3 years of relevant experience
Experienced fundraiser who can effectively cultivate and steward relationships with major donors
Collaborative team-player and strong relationship builder who can work with staff across the country
Accountable for own work and a strong project manager
Ability to juggle competing demands, prioritize with ease, and be efficient with time
Comfortable with deadlines
Deep understanding of and connections to the local Jewish and/or social justice landscape
Ability to attend occasional community events as a representative of Avodah
Able to travel at least once annually as required to manage portfolio and collaborate with national staff
