Engineering/Architectural Technician

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest agencies in the state, dedicated to ensuring the health and well-being of North Carolinians. They are seeking an Engineering Technician III to conduct inspections of mental health and adult care facilities for compliance with regulations and building codes.

Responsibilities

Conduct on-site biennial physical plant and life safety inspections of existing licensed 24-hour mental health homes 6 beds or less, adult care homes 6 beds or less, and respite services in adult day centers for compliance with licensure rules and state building codes
Creating reports documenting inspection findings using ASPEN software
Reviewing with facility administrators the creation of a Plan of Correction (POC) for deficiencies
Conducting fire, complaint, and other investigations
Travel throughout the state with 1-2 overnight stays per week

Required

Associate's degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred

Possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver license
Demonstrated proven organization and written communication skills to be able to document inspection findings using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar
Documented experience and physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and inspect areas of residential facilities to include roofs, attics, basements, and crawl spaces
Documented knowledge and application of architectural, electrical, and mechanical engineering theory, techniques, practices, and procedures applicable to residential occupancies
Availability to travel up to four (4) days per week throughout the state, including overnight stays
