Sr. Director, Treasury
Avalara is a fast-scaling SaaS and AI-driven business focused on financial stability and growth. The Senior Director, Treasury will architect a global treasury and risk management strategy and oversee global cash, investments, capital markets, and enterprise risk programs.

Responsibilities
Lead global cash & liquidity strategy
Develop and maintain enterprise-level cash, liquidity, and funding strategies across all geographies and currencies
Build dynamic forecasting models tailored to SaaS recurring revenue and AI infrastructure investments
Optimize working capital, intercompany funding, and global banking structures
Lead capital markets activities, debt facilities, and credit relationships
Maintain an efficient capital structure balancing liquidity, leverage, and shareholder value
Support M&A financing and large-scale investment initiatives
Own the Global Investment Policy and ensure disciplined, risk-adjusted returns on corporate funds
Manage investments for liquidity, yield, and capital preservation
Oversee enterprise exposure to interest rate, FX, counterparty, and credit risks
Design and execute hedging strategies aligned with policy and regulatory requirements
Leverage AI and analytics platforms for predictive risk modeling and scenario analysis
Oversee comprehensive global insurance coverage including property, casualty, cyber, D&O, E&O, and business interruption
Direct broker relationships, negotiations, policy renewals, and claims management
Partner with Legal, HR, Security, and Operations to identify emerging risks such as AI liability, data privacy, and intellectual property
Maintain Avalara’s enterprise risk register and report exposures to the Audit Committee and senior leadership
Implement and optimize treasury management systems integrated with ERP and analytics tools
Automate global cash positioning, investment reporting, and risk analytics
Ensure strong internal controls, fraud prevention, and treasury governance
Advise executive leadership on capital allocation, liquidity planning, and enterprise risk
Partner with cross-functional teams globally to support expansion, M&A integrations, and large-scale technology initiatives
Provide thought leadership on how treasury enables Avalara’s long-term growth strategy
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required
10+ years of treasury and corporate finance experience, including 5+ years in global leadership roles within SaaS, technology, or AI-driven companies
Proven success managing enterprise insurance programs and global risk transfer
Deep expertise in international treasury operations, capital markets, financial risk management, and investment governance
Experience with treasury systems (e.g., Kyriba, SAP, Workday, Oracle) and ERP integrations
Knowledge of derivative instruments, investment vehicles, and multi-currency structures
Familiarity with ASC 815 (hedging), ASC 820 (fair value), and global accounting standards
Strategic, data-driven thinker with strong financial modeling and risk analytics capability
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and executive influencing skills
Ability to translate complex financial concepts into actionable insights
High integrity, sound judgment, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
MBA, CPA, CFA, CTP strongly preferred
ARM or CPCU a plus
