Responsibilities

Operate and maintain a variety of conventional machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, and specialized equipment
Fabricate, repair, and modify tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, molds, and gauges to precise dimensions and close tolerances
Interpret complex blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical specifications; prepare work layouts and calculate dimensions using advanced shop mathematics and trigonometric functions
Select appropriate materials (metals, alloys, plastics) based on physical properties and machining requirements; apply processes such as hardening, annealing, and stress relieving
Utilize precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, optical comparators) to verify accuracy of machined components
Collaborate with engineers and instrumentation technicians to design and integrate custom machining solutions for aircraft modifications and instrumentation systems
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with OSHA and Air Force safety standards
Support occasional travel for off-site operations and adhere to all security and OPSEC requirements

Required

Experience as a Machinist II or equivalent role
Ability to operate and maintain a variety of conventional machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, and specialized equipment
Experience in fabricating, repairing, and modifying tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, molds, and gauges to precise dimensions and close tolerances
Ability to interpret complex blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical specifications
Proficiency in preparing work layouts and calculating dimensions using advanced shop mathematics and trigonometric functions
Knowledge of selecting appropriate materials (metals, alloys, plastics) based on physical properties and machining requirements
Experience applying processes such as hardening, annealing, and stress relieving
Ability to utilize precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, optical comparators) to verify accuracy of machined components
Experience collaborating with engineers and instrumentation technicians to design and integrate custom machining solutions for aircraft modifications and instrumentation systems
Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with OSHA and Air Force safety standards
Willingness to support occasional travel for off-site operations and adhere to all security and OPSEC requirements
