Responsibilities
Own the end-to-end process for open sourcing internal tools and technologies
Partner with engineers to move repositories from private to public
Ensure projects meet required security, legal, and quality standards before release
Serve as the primary point of contact for open source process and governance questions
Own and evolve internal documentation that explains how to open source projects
Maintain clear guidance on required checks, best practices, and workflows
Ensure documentation remains current, practical, and easy to follow
Write and contribute to external-facing documentation for public repositories
Support open source projects with guidance, structure, and quality standards
May contribute code when appropriate, with primary focus on enablement
Support adoption and usage of open source projects after release
Engage directly with external developers through GitHub, community channels, and live sessions
Balance time between internal enablement and external community engagement
Clearly communicate the value and impact of open source initiatives
Translate technical progress into business-relevant outcomes
Share updates and insights with leadership and cross-functional partners
Qualification
Required
Senior-level experience in developer advocacy, technical documentation, software engineering, or a related role
Proven involvement in open source communities through contributions, programs, or collaboration
Strong understanding of modern software development workflows and tooling
Deep hands-on experience with GitHub, including pull requests, issues, reviews, and contributions
Comfort working across tools commonly used by engineering teams, including Jira and Slack
Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred
Familiarity with open source licenses and contributor agreements
Experience supporting or scaling multiple open source projects
Background working with cloud-native or developer infrastructure technologies
Understanding of how AI intersects with open source software
Awareness of legal, licensing, and governance considerations related to AI-generated code
Sound judgment around responsible and appropriate use of AI
Comfort using AI tools to improve personal efficiency and workflows
