The City of Cedar Rapids is seeking a Water Engineer Intern to join their Water Utilities Department. This role offers hands-on experience in monitoring construction projects related to water distribution and system improvements, while supporting continuous process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

Conduct observation of active water distribution system construction projects

Assist with project start-up and close-out

Complete construction cost audits

Review engineering plans, designs, and specifications for water improvements

Operate various engineering survey instruments for determination of precise location of water main, fire hydrants, and valves

Research real estate and engineering records

Training on reading and understanding construction specifications and codes

Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures and safety practices

Attend work regularly at the designated place and time

Support continuous process improvement initiatives

Perform related work as required

Required

1 to 2 years of technical training or study towards a Civil Engineering degree, Construction Management degree, or Certified Engineering Technician preferred for Intern I

2 or more years of technical training or study towards a Civil Engineering degree, Construction Management degree, or Certified Engineering Technician preferred for Intern II

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work

Valid U.S. Driver's License Required
